The Ones They Took available for pre-order!
Everyone knows publishing takes foreverrrrrr.
I still can’t believe I started this book back in 2018. It makes the milestones feel even weirder, because so much of this process is “hurry up and wait,” so you have these long stretches of time (like being on submission to publishers, or querying an agent) where you try your best to forget you even wrote something. Otherwise the waiting would be that much worse.
TOTT existed in that odd dream-state for so long, and finally knowing it’s a physical thing is throwing me for a loop. It’s not mine anymore—people have preordered it, and they’re going to read it and judge it with brains that are very different from mine, and then it’ll be theirs instead. And that’s awesome! And scary! And makes you feel super vulnerable! And also fills you with gratitude! And so many other things.
September 26th seems really far away, but I’ve played this game before. This time I don’t have to pretend I didn’t write a book just so I can make it through the year. I can actually be excited, and share that with friends, family, coworkers, and people I’ve even never met, and I can also take some time to be proud of myself, too.
Because I wrote this for me, most of all, just to prove that I could. And that’s pretty damn neat!
You can preorder my book or add it to your Goodreads shelf here!
